“Independence is happiness.” -Susan B. Anthony
After a leisurely morning and a quick stop at the Piazza’s bbq to visit with dear friends we ventured off for something different.
This year we spent Independence Day in Salem, MA. Brian’s parents went on a harbor tour last year on the Schooner Fame of Salem and got to see a spectacular fireworks show afterwards. They really thought we would enjoy it and bought tickets in advance. So, we spent the late afternoon/evening in Salem. The harbor sunset sail was very nice. The family that owns the boat and conducts the tour are very nice and it really make it a great experience. If you are ever in the area we are highly recommend the tour.
Prior to our journey on the Schooner Fame we walked around the Salem Maritime National Park and enjoyed some of the free kids activities. Ms. Violet got a butterfly painted on her face and both kids enjoyed some games where they won a few fun prizes.
Finally, it was almost time to board the Schooner Fame for our harbor tour.
It was so cool to see them raise the sails:
Finally, the moment we were all waiting for (well, except Violet)…Fireworks! We were right under the fireworks and it was the most spectacular show any of us had ever seen before. During the grand finale we could actually feel the seats and our hearts pounding with every explosion. Awesome!http://www.mclaughland.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/IMG_4233.mov
