Moving Up

Today was a very special day. Both of our kids hit another major milestone today – Violet started pre-kindergarten and Ethan started first grade.

For Ethan, it was a slightly scarier experience because this is the first time he remembers moving on to a new school. He stressed over it all weekend. He kept saying he was scared and that he didn’t want Monday to come. He said he was scared that everything was going to be new and that he wouldn’t have a lot of his friends around. To calm his fears Brian and I decided to work from home so we could be there to drop him off, walk him to class and then pick him up after school. Seeing the school mascot managed to cheer him up a bit.

Then it was time to line up at the sound of the first bell. As you can see he’s thrilled. NOT.

The the parents going to join the students for their first few minutes of class. The teacher took the opportunity to give us some instructions before she explained the rules to the children. Hmmm…I couldn’t help but feel like a kid myself. All good though. He’s got a great teacher.

After school, we treated the kids to an afternoon snack at Baskin-Robbins to celebrate the new school year. Ice cream always makes them happy, and us!
