our home

On this page, we chronicled the construction of our new house. We went out to the site once a week to take pictures of the progress.

Here’s a look of the model home for our floor plan. When we walked into this model home, we instantly feel in love and knew we wanted a home just like this for our growing family.

Here are some construction updates:

July 13, 2008: The foundation is ready and waiting for the lumber to be delivered.

July 28, 2008: Mack visited the site and called to let us know that the lumber has been delivered and the framing started.

August 2, 2008: At the end of week #1, the first floor framing was completed, the stair stringers are in place up to the second floor and the steps and first landing are installed.

August 10, 2008: At the end of week #2, we were a little disappointed that there was not more progress, but the rough plumbing was completed.  The second floor deck was also installed.

August 17, 2008: At the end of week #3, the second floor and roof framing was completed! Hopefully the builder will kick it into high gear and get the exterior walls and roofing finished so that that can start the interior works before we run into a chance of rain!

August 24, 2008: At the end of week #4, the majority of the windows were installed, the rough mechanical work was complete and the roof tile and door frames were on site.  By next week, we might see the roof tiles on and the door frames installed!

September 1, 2008: At the end of week #5, most of the HVAC and electrical rough work is complete.  The door frames are installed and the gypsum board is on site and waiting to be installed.  The roof tiles are laid in piles on the roof ready to be installed.

September 6, 2008: Week #6 is complete, and there is lots of progress on the exterior of the house.  On Saturday morning, we saw the entire exterior covered in tar paper and masonry wire.  So, we expect that by next week, we will probably see the stucco on the exterior walls.  The crews were working today, so we’ll go by tomorrow morning and take a walk through the interior and see what else was done during the week.

September 7, 2008: We were back at the house on Sunday morning and were able to go inside.  The low voltage wiring was complete…the cable tv, phone and speaker wiring was run throughout the house!

September 13, 2008: The end of week #7, we have the first coat of stucco and all the interior drywall!

September 20, 2008: We were in San Francisco for the weekend so Mack stopped by to take some photos of the house.  This is the end of week #8.  There is another base coat of stucco on the exterior and the a majority of the interior walls have their skim coat of plaster.  The interior is starting to look more complete.

September 27, 2008: Week #9 of construction.  The final base coat of stucco is drying and the interior has been cleaned out.  The mantle has been installed and the master closet shelves are installed.

October 4, 2008: It’s week #10, and we stopped on our way to Las Vegas for our wedding.  The was the first chance that the east coast side of the family was able to see the house (since they were in town for the wedding)!  The final color coat of stucco was applied and the upper roof tiles were almost completed.  The stair railing had also been stained the dark espresso color that we selected.  The cabinets throughout the house have also been installed.  Also, the wall around the backyard has been installed so that we were able to really get a sense of how large our yard will be.

October 12, 2008: Week #11 has brought more progress.  The exterior finished color looks great in the sun.  The railings are painted white, as is the mantle and the shelving in the pantry and closets.  Also, the driveway and walkway formwork is in place.

October 19, 2008: At the end of Week #12, we have a driveway and a front walkway!  Also, we were locked out.  The exterior door hardware has been installed and the doors are now locked.  We were able to look in through the windows and see that the tile work has been installed in the downstairs shower and the master shower.  The side yard wall on the west side of the site is up as well.  Also, the exterior lights have been installed at the back room and side garage door.

October 25, 2008: It is the end of Week #13 and there was not much to see since we’re locked out now.  There did not seem to be much progress inside, but the wall around the yard is complete and the two front columns on the porch have been installed.  There are not any pictures due to a glitch with the camera, so check back next week for more updates.

November 1, 2008: Week #14 – three and a half months after constructions started – and the progress is amazing.  The decorative columns on the front entry have been installed and are awaiting final paint.  The front yard landscaping has also been started and the rain gutters and downspouts are up.  The decorative wrought iron has also been installed on the loft windows and the Juliet balcony for bedroom #3.

November 9, 2008: Week #15 is complete and the house looks like it is almost finished from the front.  The landscaping is finished out front and the countertops and kitchen sink have been installed.  The garage door is up as well.

November 25, 2008: 17 weeks and 2 days…we are getting the keys today…the house is finished! YAY! WOOHOO!  We are moving on the 28th!
